Sometimes you have to look into yourself
and ask the hard questions. Like, what do you want out of
your horn? Do you want prestige or do you want it to play and
sound great, or, all three? How about looks? Do you prefer, or
in the case of some gigs need, your instrument to look awsome?
And, is the original lacquer thing really that important
to you?
Depending on the answers to those questions,
this 10M is either a pretty horn but of little interest or it
represents your personal grail, the horn you've been looking
for. For this horn has had it all and with beautiful
result. First we started with a clean and super straight but
plug-butt ugly old '53 10M that had seen better days and then
some, stripped it and hand polished it to preserve the metal.
Then came a full mechanical overhaul followed by a thin coat of
gorgeous dark gold lacquer, some cool black Roo pads and a full
re-engraving of the original Conn Lady Face motif. We even add
the Saxgormet three-ring neck strap rings and their super
articulated thumb hook for your playing comfort.
Here you see the results of those labors. The
restoration of a valient old jazz warrior to its former glory,
ready for another life. It once again plays as it should and
looks, well, you decide.
Since the above was written this horn
suffered a bump in the showroom by a nameless customer which
resulted in a slight kink in the bell, left side. This has been
nicely repaired leaving only a slight loss of lacquer over the
stress line. The attractiveness and playability of the horn is
in no way affected.
All our horns ship in a period trunk case
unless otherwise instructed. If you aren't crazy about dealing with
an early case (smells, condition, questionable protection for the instrument) we
have a great Chinese made, ProTec style, zipper, hard sided foam, case
available for an additional $105. We recommend this case very highly
and we love to ship in them because then we are certain there will
be no damage.
Have a look these cases at:
