OUR
SATISFACTION GUARANTEE AND RETURN POLICY:
We guarantee our
instruments 100% to please you. If the instrument does not live up to your expectations and is shipped back to us in the
same condition that
you received it and within 10 (ten)
calendar days of your receiving it, you will receive a full
refund less shipping, insurance and a 3% re-stocking charge to
cover credit card or other fees imposed on us. If you paid by
cash or check you of course, are not liable for this fee. Please call us for more details at: 859 657-6341
Of course there
is always the possibility of jostling during shipping causing
some leaks or a slight out of adjustment condition. Small problems such as
these can, but only with our prior approval, be referred to
your local repair technician and we will gladly
reimburse you for any reasonable expense incurred. However, if
the repair is estimated to be more than $100 we will probably
ask that you return the horn to us for repair, after which we
will return it to you, all free of charge.
Caution: Probably due to the poor economy and the way
small businesses are struggling, we have been having a problem
with unscrupulous repairmen or shops. These individuals will
tell a customer who has brought a horn they have just purchased
in for a small adjustment or a leak fix that the horn is in
terrible condition and requires a full re-pad or overhaul. These
dishonest shops seek to rip off the seller (us) knowing that the
better sellers reimburse their clients for necessary work to fix
shipping damage. We only sell and ship fine vintage instruments
in excellent playing condition. Anyone who alleges that one of
our instruments needs extensive repair is lying. Please beware
of these clip-joint repair shops and be sure to report it to us
so that we may report them to the Instrument Repair Association.
If it comes back to us, we know it get's fixed right.
If you have work
done to the horn and then decide to
return it, if you have work done without our knowledge, or
if you work on the horn yourself, we will deduct any and all expenses incurred by us to correct
problems with the horn from your
refund.
Please understand that you are responsible for any damage to,
or change in the condition of, the horn while in
your possession. If the horn returns to us damaged we will
determine whether the damage was the responsibility of the
shipper, or poor
packaging or carelessness on your part while the horn was in
your possession. This determination is entirely up to us but we
are very experienced in this business and can usually tell quite
well the cause of any damage. Be reassured that we value our
fine reputation and we will always give the benefit of the doubt
to the customer, but any damage obviously due to poor packaging
or negligence will be repaired so as to bring the instrument
back to the condition it was in before it left here and the cost
of that work will, and must be deducted from your refund.
If you return the
instrument, you are responsible for the
shipping charges and you must insure the instrument for its full
value. We will not refund the purchase price if the instrument
is lost or damaged in transit and was not fully insured. We
strongly recommend that you retain the original packaging
materials until you are thoroughly satisfied with the horn.
We
want you to be happy with your horn, and us.
PAYMENT METHODS:
We accept virtually any form of payment including Visa,
Discover, MasterCard, American Express and of course
PayPal.
We also accept eChecks
and personal checks (our favorite), cashier's checks, USPS money orders or, in the
case of a customer pickup of the instrument, cash. But remember,
if you come here to pick up your instrument, or we ship within
Kentucky, we must charge you Kentucky 6% sales tax so please
take that into consideration.
If you wish to pay by
credit card just give us a call at
(859) 657-6341 and we can take your credit card information over
the phone. We take all the major cards.
SECURITY DEPOSITS:
If we have a horn that
you just must have but are in need of some time to bake the
bread, we'll accept a 10% non-refundable deposit to hold the
horn for 30 days. It works out to $150 on a $1,500 horn or $500
on a $5,000 Mark VI. That deposit is, of course,
applicable to the purchase price. If you need some flexibility
in the time you will find us very easy to work with. We want you to get your
horn.
WEBSITE SALES
VS. EBAY SALES:
We intend to keep our
prices as low as possible because we want these wonderful old
troopers to be in the hands of players who love them as much as
we do, not sitting on a sax stand in our horn room.
If you have discovered
us through our eBay ads you may notice that the prices we ask on
eBay are higher than those on our web site. The web site
price is lower because if you buy direct from us then we don't
incur eBay fees and we pass that savings on to you. Buying directly
from us allows us to get to know you and your musical needs.
Then we get to offer you the absolute best and most
caring customer service in the industry. We're not phonies.
We treat you like family. We
truly care about your instrument purchase and your happiness.
Ask around.
SHIPPING:
We are quite meticulous with our packing and
shipping and we are expert at packing horns, both saxophones and
brass. Saxophones have the loose keys corked and the horn is
packed tightly in the case, particularly vintage cases which
usually offer little protection. We normally replace the old
case with a modern, fitted case which cushions
the horn so well that it effectively ends any
shipping problem. However we will, if you would prefer, ship in the
original case or a representative period case.
We ship by UPS Ground domestically and FedEx
or UPS Internationally. However, we are ever attentive to the desires of
the customer so, if you have a favorite carrier, please let us
know and we will do everything possible to accommodate your
wishes.
SELLING US A HORN:
We actively solicit the buying of horns from any and all
legitimate sources particularly private individuals. Whether it's
your old horn from school or your Uncle Fred's prized Selmer, we
are interested in taking it off your hands and filling those
hands with some cash! If you have a saxophone in decent condition, please give us a
chance to bid on it before you put it into the ebay jungle. Of
course we are looking for examples of particular vintages and in
a condition which allows us to return it to better than new but
please allow us a chance to make that determination.
Here's how it works:
You contact us by either email or phone and we discuss the
instrument. Before that first contact please have an idea how
much you expect to get for the horn. Please don't use the prices
on eBay to establish your expectation. Go to the left column and
click on "Completed Auctions" and then take a look. This setting
shows what horns like yours are really selling for.
Next step is that you
email us some pictures of your horn. Phone pictures are ok if
they're good ones. We must have well lighted, in focus pictures
with good representations of any weak areas on the horn like
dents or corrosion. Based on those pictures we will make you an
offer. That amount is open for some negotiation in the usual way
and depends on how much we want the horn.
Once a price is
negotiated we will send you an email with a firm, cash offer for
your horn. That written offer is backed by the integrity of
ThisOldHorn and our word is our bond. Then you send us the horn
packing it appropriately as shown on the
"How to Pack a Saxophone" page.
Once we receive the
horn and inspect it we will send or release the funds as agreed
or return the horn to you, fully insured if it's not up to our
expectations. That's why your pictures are so important.
It's that simple
and beats ebay in just about every way.
SHIPPING OR RETURNING A
SAXOPHONE TO US
Return shipping should
be via UPS Ground, fully insured. Please refer to the article
"How To Pack A
Saxophone" on this website and follow the
guidance there.
INTERNATIONAL SALES:
For the purpose of our business
International Sales are defined as any sales outside the 48
contiguous United States, Alaska, Hawaii and all
the US Territories and Protectorates. We do not actively solicit
international sales but will sell to selected customers on a
case by case basis so long as the customer understands and is
willing to adhere to the following policies:
-
We absolutely will
not falsify the invoice amount or any other paperwork in
order to avoid taxes or tariffs. We are often told that this
is a common practice with other instrument sellers but
felonious document falsification is not practiced at
This Old Horn, LLC so please do not ask.
-
International sales
are paid via bank transfer or PayPal
only.
-
All international
sales are shipped by Federal Express International Economy
or UPS International service only. This is not
negotiable. Please note that we will not ship via the
United States Postal Service.
If these conditions and
policies are amenable to you then please give us a call and we
can discuss the details of your purchase. We charge no
additional fees for international shipping beyond the FedEx or
UPS
charges which, depending upon your location in the world, can be
substantial. We regret that we cannot offer the flexibility for
which we have become famous but hard experience has demonstrated
that we can only offer an acceptable level of service and
protection by shipping with these carriers and following the few other
simple precautions. Thank you for understanding.
