This 1951 Buescher 400, so  called "Top Hat & Cane" model tenor is a very fine re-lacquered example of Buescher's premiere professional tenor saxophone. This one is from the middle of the twenty five year production run and therefore represents the best of American saxophone making in the post war years.

The re-lacquer done here is of the highest quality and appears to be quite recent. In fact it is so well done as to be indistinguishable from a very fine original instrument except for a couple of details. One of these is the removal of the Buescher pad snaps, which have been replaced with Selmer style domed resonators. We can't tell any difference in the sound from the original. But, there are some to whom this may be seen to be a flaw. Also for reasons unknown, the soldered, raised lettering originally gracing the bell, was removed and the lettering very neatly engraved into the bell. All in all a not unattractive outcome.

Pads  appear new or very nearly new and the instrument plays as one would expect from a Buescher 400.
